Ambassadors Scheme

The Ambassadors Scheme is an exciting new initiative open to secondary school students in S5 and S6. Our LUNA Ambassadors will play a big role in our mission - helping us to spread our message to communities all across Scotland. Through our training programme, the Ambassadors will be encouraged to reflect on the unique challenges that disabilities and chronic illnesses pose to children and young people, and will learn how to become the best allies they can be. We want to equip our Ambassadors with the knowledge to confidently advocate for young people with disabilities and chronic illnesses, and to educate their peers on these issues. With the help of our LUNA Ambassadors, we will make our school communities more Disability Positive.

The scheme aims to be accessible for all young people - if you or a young person you know is interested in becoming a LUNA Ambassador and has specific accessibility requirements, please get in contact with us and we will be sure to accommodate you.

Disability Positivity

In our scheme we talk a lot about Disability Positivity - but what exactly is Disability Positivity?

Disability Positivity includes many different things. In short, it means seeing disability and chronic illness in a positive light – not as a hindrance or something to be ashamed of, but merely a difference.

Throughout the training course you are going to learn how to be Disability Positive through looking at the “3 As” – ableism, accessibility and advocacy. By thinking about these issues, you will learn about issues faced by disabled and chronically ill people, and learn ways to overcome these issues and create a more open, welcoming, and accepting atmosphere.

Through a series of activities throughout the course you will be encouraged to think about and discuss various issues surrounding disability and chronic illness in order to improve your understanding. As well as this, you will develop your reflective, communication, and public speaking skills. To track your progress, there will be formal and informal assessment throughout the scheme - this includes the Assessment Info sheets that will be included in your Handbook, a Workshop Report and a Final Certification. Once you have completed all of the training you will be recognised as an official LUNA Ambassador.
